By Daniel Sirstad
At the beginning of this new year, my wish is for perfect peace to saturate every home. The Apostle Paul, in his epistle to the Philippians, refers to a peace that passeth all understanding (4:7). An incomprehensible peace.
Isaiah refers to such peace. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on thee: Because he trusteth in thee” (26:3).
Some would ask if perfect anything is possible on this earth. One reason is people tend to look through the lens of their own eyes rather than through the eyes of God.
I contend that when the Bible says something is perfect, then it is perfect. When God tells us to be perfect, then we can be perfect. Again, the difference is through whose lens we are looking.
This perfect peace is possible when we keep our mind upon Jesus. This understanding is congruent with praying always. We may not be on our knees 24/7, but our mindset can be such that we are in communication with God around the clock.
Why would we keep our minds on the Lord? Because we trust in Him! Solomon penned some phenomenal words regarding trust (Proverbs 3:5-6).
At the beginning of this year, I encourage each of you to examine your trust barometer. Do you trust in the Lord with all your heart, or are you leaning on your understanding? Are you acknowledging God in all your ways, thereby allowing Him to direct your path?
If you and others in your home will develop a trust for God, then you and others in the family will have your minds upon Jesus throughout the morning, day, and night. You will find yourselves seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness first. As this pattern falls into place, the promise is you will be kept in the perfect peace of God.
There are so many things encroaching upon our thoughts. Take an inventory. Clean up your mind and adjust your priorities. It is a whole lot easier dealing with conflict when the peace of God reigns in your hearts and homes.
