“Autoimmune Deficiency: Syndrome of the Mind?”
Last month we read about innate, adaptive, and passive immunities and how they promote physical health. This article will take us on a short journey to discover ‘autoimmune deficiency syndrome’ and link it to ‘autoimmune deficiency syndrome of the mind.’
Autoimmune deficiency syndrome is a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks healthy cells and therefore weakens or destructs the body from within. Since this condition can exist in our body, does it not stand to reason that this same condition can also exist in our mind (emotions, will, choice, feelings, senses)?
How does one come in contact with autoimmune deficiency syndrome of the mind? First, we dismiss truth. Without truth, we are unable to answer these four basic yet necessary questions of our worldview: origin, meaning, morality, and destiny. We have become a god of our own self. Our life is now driven by a) lust of the eye; b) lust of the flesh; and c) pride of life.
Next, when truth is absent our thoughts become distorted as facts and logic are thrown to the wind. Our thoughts are then attached to a negative connotation which in turn reaps a negative response/action.
Third, negative actions form poor habits. It is almost impossible for us to see ourselves as we really are. Why? We are our own god and we are right in our own eyes. These poor habits have now manifested themselves in our character.
And last, when we display this character for all the world to see, it is not long before the world also witnesses our destiny.
Simply: Sow a thought, reap an action.
Sow an action, reap a habit.
Sow a habit, reap a character.
Sow a character, reap a destiny.
The Apostle Paul describes for us in detail what we should think on: Whatsoever things are true, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, and whatsoever possesses virtue and praise…think on these things. What a tragedy it would be to suffer with ‘autoimmune deficiency syndrome of the mind’ simply because we were unwilling to control our thoughts.
