IBC Today: Training Tomorrow’s Worship Leaders, Today
It is common to hear the sound of upright pianos muffled through practice room walls when walking outside of Dr. Lindel Anderson’s office. The hallway features framed pictures of recordings through the years; Changing Times, Not Ashamed, Persuaded, Hold On, and others. His office a lot like you may expect for a Dean of Worship studies, several books on worship and music decor. Behind Dr. Anderson’s unpretentious demeanor is passion and dedication for worshipping God with excellence.
One of the projects that has been an outlet for his dedication is IBC LIVE. It is more than a promotional event for Indiana Bible College, but its end result creates Apostolic music, resources, and training opportunities. IBC LIVE gives students opportunities to delve into songwriting, transcription, sound, media and graxphics. Groups and soloists alike receive an extra level of feedback when during the overdub process. These recordings not only become music, but resources like chord charts and multitracks available through voicevision.com.
“I remember a particular Worship and the Word session that really changed my life and kept me going when I was nearing a quitting point.”
The same can be said for IBC Music Fest, a bi-annual music conference held at Calvary Tabernacle. This event is ran primarily by students, who learn first-hand what it takes to organize a conference. This conference exists because Bro. Anderson remembers how helpful similar conferences were to him in ministry.
“I remember a particular Worship and the Word session,” Bro. Anderson said, “that really changed my life and kept me going when I was nearing a quitting point.” He also emphasized the peer-to-peer element of ministry that happens at conferences like Music Fest, where worship leaders are able to encourage and sharpen each other. “That’s the primary reason that I do [Music Fest], because I know it can rekindle the fire in someone who may be struggling,” Bro. Anderson said.
This year’s selection of Music Fest speakers include Pastor of Calvary Tabernacle, Rev. Joshua B. Carson, and Bro. David Jennings. Clinicians include James Wilson, Daniel Bernard, Mark Crowder, Chad and Fallon Erickson, and many IBC staff and alumni.
