A new California bill, AB 655, was introduced in February by Democratic Assemblyman Ash Kalra as the “California Law Enforcement Accountability Reform Act.” The text of the bill would require that background investigations be conducted to determine if police officer candidates have “engaged in membership in a hate group,” participated in hate group activities, or made public expressions of hate.
The man alleged to have murdered 10 people at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, was an anti-Trump Muslim immigrant, but Twitter has stated that tweets calling the suspect white and possibly Christian do not violate its misinformation policy. “The Tweets referenced are not in violation of the Twitter Rules,” a Twitter spokesperson was quoted as saying.
