Reaching the Hispanic Community in Your Area
God wants the believer to know that all ministry is cross-cultural. When Jesus gave the great commission, He said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28:19) He was speaking to His Jewish followers to reach a Gentile world. In my experience, we think of going overseas. However, God is bringing the nations to us (in the USA). Therefore, our worldview must be adjusted toward a new wave of mission in our own backyard.
We allowed an independent Hispanic ministry to rent space at the church at one point in time. Through this, God allowed us to build additional relationships in the community. I believe people must be taught and trained to serve other cultures. If one wants a multicultural ministry, then there must be multicultural leadership.
God opened the door for NWM to have a Cuban worship leader (for the overall church). He primarily serves the English-speaking congregation and can serve the Spanish speaker as well. So as part of the culture of NWM, we often worship in both English and Spanish.
We had a bilingual English/Spanish Sunday morning service once a month for a while. Then, as the Spanish part of the congregation grew, a Spanish service was established. Today, the Hispanic ministry has matured to where it has its own stand-alone services. We have a dedicated Hispanic pastoral team and conduct many different services throughout the week.
