Sis. Kara McCoy’s motivation for children’s revival started when she was about five years old. “I remember my mom and her best friend, another Sunday school teacher at our church in Minnesota, doing a puppet show in the doorway of our classroom. On this particular day, in the middle of the song, the makeshift stage collapsed. There they were – both of those ladies, arms up in the air, song playing, and the puppets still singing as if nothing had gone wrong… except for the surprised expressions on their faces. The class absolutely howled. And at that moment, God put a spark inside of me to connect with people,” explains Sis. McCoy.
“While at Bible College, instructors like Arlo and Jane Moehlenpah, Raymond Crownover, and Kenneth Haney took notice of me, giving me access to participate in activities and special events. They saw an anointing on my life to become a minister.
“The Lord kept drawing me into deeper and deeper relationship with Him, and so I started The Children’s Revival ministry in 2013 while living in Missouri. We have relocated to Texas. I have been approved by the UPCI Children’s Ministry for the Apostolic Children’s Evangelist Registry as well as the North American Missions Enrolled Evangelist Registry. I schedule independently with churches large and small as well as camps or home missions works.”
What’s unique about The Children’s Revival? Sis. McCoy likes to say that she “brings Junior Camp to you.” She utilizes a multi-media approach with puppets, action songs, object lessons, and storytelling. Sometimes, she even lights things on fire!
“We are big and loud, we run around a lot, and we enjoy having fun. One of the best parts of what I offer is teachers’ training. A lesson in compassion, I help the leadership of the church to see their kids, visitors, and families in a different light. The church needs to learn how to think differently to create the best possible environment for each of our members to encounter Christ in their own way.”
Through multi-media presentations, including interviews, videos, and psychological insight into how our minds really work, Sis. McCoy gives tips and tricks for creating a better experience for kids, especially those with exceptionalities and special needs. She comments, “God is empowering the church to embrace the pain and trauma of the past to create an open door of understanding as we reach out a hand to a hurting world. Many of us have experiences that God wants to use to heal others. We just have to let Him. The time is now.”
